For sale is a real deal, authentic Dave Guardala hand made very early King Curtis mouthpiece with the majority of its plating still intact!
This mouthpiece is handed signed by Dave with his signature "DG" and serial number as well "KC" engraved. This KC stands for King Curtis model! This is the earliest rendition of King model, this was changed to just the "King" model after King Curtis's estate challenged DG for using the name. There were much more King models then actual KC King Curtis models.
These days these pieces are just gone. Players hold onto these like there life matters on it. I personally think these are really some of the best playing mouthpieces of all time. Theres is reason for the hype behind them!
This mouthpiece is USED and is some 30+ years old so of course your going to see surface scratching, slight patina, flea bites, patina etc.
This mouthpiece was touched up by mouthpiece guru Mojo Bari and signed by him on the shank. This mouthpiece has all the traditional Dave Guardala signature and serial number intact, but also has the Mojo signature. The original owner claimed iIt was not a full restoration reface rather Mojo just cleaned up the table and rails to bring it all to original specs. The piece is absolutely smoking amazing playing piece!
The mouthpiece it self plays AMAZING! The mouthpiece has extreme power with a beautiful buzzy edgeness. This piece is bright and zippy but with an extreme full body. The mouthpiece is absolutely Ferrari! You can put very little air in and subtone oh so perfect or you can press the gas and go! go! go! Without much effort you can easily get around the horn. This mouthpiece makes it very easy to be agile around the horn with precision. While some mouthpiece make it difficult to get around, this mouthpiece to me is somewhat of a laser gun precision type piece that really allows me to go for it! Altissimo range on this piece is incredibly easy, probably the easiest its going to get on any mouthpiece.
On the inside of the tip you can see Gurdalas signature cross hair markings. While being played from the water and saliva passing through these get flatter and flatter and essentially disappear. Its a great gauge to look at these markings to separate real from fake gaurdalas as you have to be very skilled and precise to replicate it just like DG did.
This mouthpiece features the classic DG hand made pink bite plate that these pieces are famous for. Overall its in very nice condition but there is a blemish anomaly in the top right corner of it.
If you have been looking for one of these pieces this is really an amazing playing piece that could be a lifetime type piece. Im pricing this accordingly to fair market value and this piece is ready to be purchased and cherished as is!
